At 11:32 PM EST...Doppler Radar indicated a line of strong thunderstorms extending from Lawrenceville to Richmond and moving east at 40 mph.

This line of strong thunderstorms will affect the following areas through 12:30 AM EST...

Hopewell...Prince George...Emporia...Jarratt

Wind gusts to 50 mph...dangerous lightning...and heavy rain will be expected with this storm. This line have the potential to become severe at anytime! Take shelter before these storms reach your area...remain indoors until the storms have passed.

A tornado watch remains in effect until 4 AM EST for southeast Virginia.

At 10:33 PM EST...Doppler Radar indicated clusters of showers and thunderstorms across Eastern Virginia. These storms are moving northeast at 35 to 45 mph. Currently the storms are not severe but during the overnight hours as these storms continue to intensify...the threat of severe storms will increase with tornadoes being a threat. Continue to monitor the situation over the next several hours as we keep you posted.

A tornado warning remains in effect until 10:00 PM EST. At 9:50 PM EST Doppler Radar indicated a severe storm capable of producing a tornado near Stony Creek moving northeast at 50 mph.

The tornado will be near...

The safest place to be is in a basement. Get under a workbench or other sturdy piece of furniture. If no basement is available seek shelter in the lowest level of your home and keep away from windows. If in a mobile home or vehicle...abandon them and get in a ditch or a low spot and cover your head with your hands.

The National Weather Service has issued Tornado Watch # 793 effective until 4 AM EST for all of Southeast Virginia.

Remember...a tornado watch means that conditions are favorable for the development of severe weather including tornadoes...large hail and damaging winds in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should remain alert for threatening weather conditions and listen for statements and possible warnings.

Portions of southeast Virginia is now in the warm sector and currently watching for the strong possibility of a tornado watch being issued within the next hour or so. Persons who live in southeast Virginia need to closely monitor radio and TV through the evening and overnight hours as tornadoes in the dark are extremely dangerous and all warnings should be taken very seriously.

Severe Storms

Will be providing severe weather coverage here on the blog for storms that will develop through the evening hours into the overnight hours. Currently watching the warm front to move into southeast Virginia within the next few hours...this will turn winds to the southwest and increase to around 15 to 25 mph. The possibility exist for severe thunderstorms that could produce isolated tornadoes through 7 AM on Thursday.
